Campus Trees

UO’s Campus was once almost treeless!

Believe it.  Despite the fact that campus today is a living arboretum, in the early years of UO, it had almost no trees.  The only trees on campus during its founding in 1976 were a pair of oak trees, known as the “Condon Oaks.”  The first tree was adopted by the class of 1897.  The second was removed in 2004.

Did you know the old campus quad used to have * a lot * more trees!  The infamous Columbus day storm of 1932 took down several of the larger trees in this area.
