Dollar Tree

The large maple tree growing outside of Deady, often seen with ferns growing on it, is the only remaining “Dollar Tree, in the Old Campus Quadrangle.  During the early years of UO’s history, the janitor was paid $1 to plant a tree and an additional $1 if it survived; this philosophy has been credited with starting the University’s rich history of being a living arboretum.
