Pioneer Father

The statue of the Pioneer Father statue is reported to come alive on Halloween.  At midnight on October 31st, if you salute the statue, he will salute you back.

 

The Pioneer Father is also rumored to help you pass your tests! Rubbing the toe of his right boot is believed to bring you good luck in your studies. 

 

Many also believe the Pioneer Father is the inspiration for Jebidiah Springfield, as Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, attended UO.
